Alejandro Asencio presents Luna 42, an intimate show where he will be sharing and introducing music to daydream to, after all, what he does best.
Born in 1980 in Elche, Alicante - South Spain - Alejandro, coming from a family of heavy musical tradition, starts developing an awkwardly early relationship with electronic music and dance culture at the age of nine, mesmerised by the rhythmic patterns and deep bass lines house music brought to his bedside table’s radio. Over the years he gets into the habit of curating dance mixtapes for himself, his friends and family (still keeps over 1,000) and decides, driven by curiosity for urban life and a passion for music, to visit London in the summer of 2000 to attend a party: Lazydog at the Notting Hill Arts Club. The electrifying vibe and deep sense of community found in that sweaty basement gets a hold of him and he becames a 'Londoner' almost straight away.
A few years (and parties) later, Alejandro successfully completes a degree in Music Culture at the University of East London and lands a job at Azuli Records as an all-round label assistant. Gaining further knowledge of the global dance scene, he has since guest DJ for many well established London house and disco underground parties (Krush, Go!zilla, Do It, Queen Soundsystem, Bodytalk, Gutterslut) and played at some great clubs home (The CAMP, Dalston Superstore, Concrete, Cargo, East Bloc, The Cross, V&A) and away (Cinema Bogota, Space Ibiza)
At present, Alejandro holds a series of residencies, the most regular one being at Dalston Superstore for Body Talk, and yearly dates for GutterSlut and The Secret Island festival. He is currently one of the regular selectors at the monthly listening ceremonial that is Bunker Sessions. In addition to that, he runs Luna 42, a monthly radio broadcast as a member of the Lucky Cloud Sound System, the collective behind London’s legendary Journey Through The Light (The Loft) Parties, Beauty and The Beat and the Brilliant Corners venue in Dalston.
True to his own roots and aware of music’s power to transform through identity, Alejandro is the mastermind behind one of London’s nightlife most successful and original events, Pelucas y Tacones (Wigs N High Heels), a bi-monthly cult party steadily running since 2005 that explores Spain’s dance music and queer counter cultural movements of the past decades and their relevance in present times, often inviting acts that are politically active to perform. The event has been hotly tipped by Time Out’s critics, praised over several media channels and Spanish TV features, generating a big buzz amongst the Spanish LGBT community in London and abroad with both residencies and one offs in Madrid, Leon, Bilbao, Barcelona, Alicante, Caceres, Brighton and Berlin.
His constant commitment to the scene means this bio will need updating soon, but until then, thank you for taking the time to read it.. and get listening!
